Welcome Survivors to our Official AFTERSHOCK Status Report for the 13th of SEPTEMBER 2019, we will be doing these status reports once every two weeks. This gives us enough time to gather stuff to report on.

Dev Update [Sam]

Hey there everyone!
I have some new things to share with you in this week’s Development Log.

In the last dev-log, I went over the new freerunning system and how it works. It is fully dynamic using line traces and some calculations to determine if an object is climbable or vaultable. Recently, I have been working on a sliding system to tie into this in which the system will take into account the surface you’re sliding on (please note that this area from the following clips was filled with objects to help showcase the systems clearly).

I have also changed up the climbing animation by adding some head movement while also fixing a bug which would stop the player from jumping after leaving a vault/climb.

It would be a damn shame if we didn’t give you all a nicer looking ride compared to the first car that we added to the game a while back.

The “Tony” (Placeholder name) is a lowrider with a lot of power in the engine but be careful with it. This beauty doesn't handle all that well off road compared to the SUV but you can be damn sure that it will reach high speeds and get you out of a sticky situation quickly.

I’ve always done my best to make sure that AFTERSHOCK looks great while keeping performance in mind. I ended up doing some research on how we were handling our lighting because in previous instances, the shadows came across too dark and the scenery felt too harsh.

After making some adjustments to our sunlight, I am now happy with the current look. I’ve also made changes to how we handle our real time shadows and made some drawbacks on it to optimize the game further while also still keeping shadows further off in the distance than before using cascades.

Thanks to everyone who submitted their responses to our survey, the ideas I’ve seen so far are great so a possible poll in the future for who prefers what ideas?

If you still want to submit your ideas for server hosting features use the link here:

In the previous dev-log, I had a little heart to heart and the response I got back was overwhelmingly positive. I just want to thank you all for being so understanding as your support means the world.

If you didn’t see that please read the previous dev-log here:

I have done three streams in the past week or so with LIVE AFTERSHOCK development, from creating the map to working on the sliding system I just showed off earlier in the development log. If you want to catch these streams be sure to check them out over at:

We will also be uploading all the streams we do to our YouTube channel here:

That’s all I have for this development log,

Dev Update [Dom]

Hello Backers, Members and everyone in between.

For this Dev-log, I'm going to talk about about the newer changes to La Feria (as a quick note, in previous dev-logs I had talked about a runway build I was working on but scrapped it as Sam is making it).

PRISON for all you evil, evil people.

First off is the original prison. If you’ve read previous dev-logs or have been around for awhile, you would have seen Sams original prison. I have since started to update and rebuild the prison while using what he originally built by request of Sam.

As you can see by merging what Sam built with my additions, it makes this feel like the medium security part of the overall prison.

Now for what I have built so far, this part of the prison has much higher security.

That's all for this dev-log guys

Signing off -Dominic

Dev Update [James]

So another Dev-log rolls around and that means an update on what I have been working on.
Recently as Sam has mentioned, we have been doing more streams over on our twitch channel,

A bit of an explosive problem

In one of those streams, you may have seen that the Exploder Crazy was exploding a bit too much. Good news is that I have fixed that and now it only explodes once like the Good Crazy that it is (instead of six or seven times).

Charger Crazy

Last time, I talked about how Sam and I were talking about having more Crazies that will populate the world and how we are implementing one that will relentlessly charge at you.

So what have I done on it since two weeks ago? Well, I have set up the animations and have been working on how the Crazy will charge at you. Now I will be working on refining it to have a better look with placement of hands and arms to look like it is actually charging and timing for animations.

Crazy/AI Suggestions.

Thank you everyone for all the suggestions that we received for the AI. These suggestions don’t need to be just for Crazies, they could be just animals that you would like to see roaming the world.

If you want to influence what Crazies or animals we implement or have more suggestions feel free to leave it at this link.

That is all for now
Till next time.

Dev Update [Aidan]

Hey guys.

Recently some of you may have realized that Sam has picked up streaming again and we are in need of some asset replacements. So I have been taking time out of debugging the launcher to make some new assets. First off, starting with this new GIF which looks way better than the old one I made if I do say so myself. Also at first glance, you wouldn’t know what’s wrong with this image until you see it move. I figured that was a good.. ‘spin’ to add to this asset.

This will most likely be the logo animation for subscriptions, follows, and other notifications on stream as well as the launcher’s new loading GIF. If you check our Discord server, it should also be available as an emote so those with Discord Nitro can pimp us out to other servers with our animated logo. It is not as long as the original due to issues with emoji sizes on Discord, but cool nonetheless.

Speaking of the launcher, as I said before, is within the debugging stage. At the moment I am in the midst of updating the launcher’s code to work with the API. A lot of what I showed in the Paper Launcher video was based on the new design I wanted the launcher to look like, however I had not made the necessary code changes to work with the API since it was not built yet. Another thing to note, the way that sign up works now is different as you will not be able to sign in and enter a code to fully activate your account. Instead we will send you a verification link to your email which will activate your account.

That’s all I have to update you guys on. If you want to give me ideas on assets to make, please let me know using the form below:

The only assets I’m focusing on are ones to do with the BLACKBOX Studios brand, logo, transitions, and logos for streams. Just know I’m a complete noob in this field but I am keen to learn. Speaking of streaming, let me know on our discord server if you want me to stream some of these assets being built, that way we can try them live.

Thanks everyone for your support

Dev Update [Caebyn]

Happy Friday the 13th y’all.

I hope you guys have been enjoying all the new content that’s been coming out. As been mentioned before, the streams have come back better than ever and we are so happy for it. It allows for a great amount of interaction with the community and also provides a look into what goes on into making a game like this. Everything about this is a collaborative effort from your support and ideas and our work input so thanks for being so active and understanding because we wouldn’t be able to do this without you. Keep a lookout for more streams and posts during the next two weeks and I will see you next time.

Now that this is done it’s time for m̶u̶r̶d̶e̶r̶ sleep but before I go let’s share a quote from my mother “Kill them all Jason!”

That brings us to the end of this AFTERSHOCK Status Report.

Thanks for reading!
