Welcome Survivors to our Official AFTERSHOCK Status Report for the 10TH OF MAY 2019, we will be doing these status reports once every two weeks. This gives us enough time to gather stuff to report on.

Dev Update [Sam]

Hey there everyone!

I have some new things to share with you in this weeks Development Log.

Weather System:

We want to do our best to make sure that you feel immersed in AFTERSHOCK. This means adding systems that immerse you into the world, weather is our latest endeavor into making you feel more immersed.

Currently we have Snow and Rain working but still are working on the actual randomized weather system. Our main concern was how we were gonna keep the effects optimized. Currently we are only noticing a 4% frame dip during a heavy downpour.

New Ocean:

We have been using the community ocean plugin that is very outdated and have instead opted for the new UE4 OlympicShader.

New Third Person/First Person Animations For Rifles/Pistols [PHASE 2/2]:

As mentioned in the previous Development-Log [CLICK HERE] I have been working on a new reworked Animation System which features dynamic interaction with cover, dynamic leaning & more.

To showcase it I’ve created a new video for you:

Interactive Foliage:

We showed this off in its early stages a while back to our backers and now we are ready to show it off for real. Need to sneak around a group of bandits? Or perhaps a horde of Crazies? Use cover like large ferns/Tall Grass to sneak around them

Dev Update [Dom]

Hey everyone, got some new things to show off,

In the last dev-log I had shown off the dockside container yard and some roads.

Today, I have the start of a large roadside with shops and other Industrial buildings.

This also includes a service station (sadly no gas motel).

There also have been some small changes made to the dockside container yard. I do have plans to start placing containers on both ships, as well as setting up some warehouses on the dockside.

Dev Update [James]

Hi there everyone.

I have been able to get sound detection working so now we have the ability to distract the Crazies. You do not want to be too loud though, distracting them is good but just be careful not to make too much noise. They might not be as interested in your distraction if you make more noise than you want.

If that is not enough, I have even implemented a damaged sense. Now they will not just continue with what they were doing when hit, they will be more responsive to events such as being hit with a rock or being shot.

However, this still a work in progress. I have decided to look into other parts of the AI so that I do not lose motivation doing the same thing day after day.

So what have I been doing?  

Well, last time I talked about implementing Special Crazies that act differently and have different abilities.

That is what I have been doing.

I have started on making a Crazy with a similar idea to the boomers from Left 4 Dead in mind, where they will explode, dealing damage and having an effect on the player. This is just one of the ideas that I have in mind for this special Crazy.

We are looking for a suitable name for these Crazies and would love your feedback. An important aspect is that we do not want to infringe any copyrights that games might have. Any ideas that you may have are welcome and you can leave these in the Ideas channel in our discord server.

What’s up peeps, it’s [Insert Funny Quote Here].

Things have been steady here in Social Media world. The population has been consistent out there but we are looking for more people to join. Our goal is for 1000 followers on Twitter after reaching 1000 likes on Facebook, we do like our 1000s don’t we. Please share around our tweets, our posts, our pictures etc, we will appreciate it very much. Other than that, keep an eye out for the next updates we make.
