Welcome Survivors to our Official AFTERSHOCK Status Report for the 26th OF APRIL 2019, we will be doing these status reports once every two weeks. This gives us enough time to gather stuff to report on.

Hope you Enjoy!

Dev Update [Sam]

Hey there everyone!

I have some cool things to share with you in this Development Log.

New Pistol:
Walther P99: The Walther P99 is a semi-automatic pistol developed by the German company Carl Walther GmbH Sportwaffen of Ulm for law enforcement, security forces and the civilian shooting market as a replacement for the Walther P5 and the P88.

Dynamic Object Avoidance:

Guns will now be affected by objects in front of it, no more clipping allowed!
I've designed it this way so that long guns are more punished in close quarters. This system takes in mind of how long your gun is and pushes your gun to the side based on that.

Main Menu Rework + Wallpaper:

I've taken the time out to rework our Main Menu system in a way that helps User Accessibility. The old menu was very cluttered and was a lot on the eyes.  After discussing with the team, we decided to rework the Menu to make it easier on the eyes and far more simplistic.

New Third Person/First Person Animations For Rifles/Pistols [PHASE 1/2]:

As I've mentioned before, our Animation System is a full body system which means that the animations you see in First Person are the same in Third Person. This means that we can smoothly transition from First Person to Third Person with no cuts. What you see in First Person is your full body using different IK based systems which will make the Third Person look realistic. Now, we have had issues with making rifle and pistol animations look good in Third Person when idle or walking around. In regards to that, I've taken the past week to rework the way we handled our upper body and I'm now happy to share how it looks:

I’ve got plenty more things I would love to show off but they just aren't ready for you to see yet.

Till next time,

Dev Update [Dom]

Hey everyone,

I have some new map stuff to show off.

Last Development Log, I talked about a new area I had started to work on and that was the large dockside and containers yard.

While this part of the island is still very much unused, I realized it was the perfect place to start building this as this chunk has a very large river coming in from the ocean.

In other news, I have started to design and plan where most roads will be placed and where the roads will be going.  However, these road layouts could be temporary as I might change the layout in the future.

On another note, I’ve decided to leave my current town and bunker alone for now to get work done on other parts of the island.  I am now working on another town and the roads that go through it. With that in mind, when I put down roads for the town I decided I'll put some trees down, though like everything else this may be changed in the future.

That's all I have to show that in semi complete state,

Thank you for reading, have a good night/day.

Dev Update [James]

So another Dev-Log is here. What have I been up to you may ask.

Since the last Dev-Log, I have implemented a basic attack system for the AI so that now it actually does something rather than just following you. This will change as we get further into the development of the AI.

Currently, I have started developing a hit sense for the AI so that it has some sort of ability to detect which direction it has been hit. This proved to be a lot more research than I had thought it would be.

As for future plans, I will be looking into making several types of AI, some that I currently have in mind to develop. Examples of these are, a Tank Type, it would be a lot harder to take down than the normal Crazies, it maybe wearing full body armour. One of the specials might even be a blind crazy, not the best sight, but really good hearing. Who knows what will come.

All these possibilities, that need to be worked on, so that’s all for now, as these things won't develop themselves.

AI Programmer.

Dev Update [Aidan]

Hey guys, just a little update from me.

Just a little sentimental piece here.  Skip down if you wanna know what I've been thinking up. Otherwise please read on.  As you know, we've been at this launcher for a while. Although we could've easily have rushed out this launcher with absolutely no idea what we were doing, we chose to slowly progress through the launcher, making sure we were taking time for our own learning and our own lives.  As a result, I now work 2 jobs, one with BLACKBOX Studios and one with a company in a different field. With this second job of mine, I am able to come up with new ideas that would just work wonders with what we're trying to accomplish. However, this comes as a double edged sword as the time it takes for one dev to make a software is massive and a busier dev means work is longer.  Being busy with this second job has made it harder than ever for me to implement these new ideas. Instead I've been trialing them on my work project, where I understand what it takes to make a feature work. So I ask for your patience. The Launcher will come and the Launcher will continue to grow as time goes on.

Sentimental rant over, thanks to those who read that.

Now onto the rant about our view of the Launcher.

As of now, the current idea and model for the Launcher has always been to showcase any BLACKBOX Studios title (AFTERSHOCK and future titles), allow users to purchase copies of BLACKBOX Studios titles, allow users to make friends with and chat with people on the platform, allow users to join other players in BLACKBOX titles (alongside Discord's game joining), and create a community hub where you can see Screenshots, Twitch Streams and News regarding BLACKBOX titles.  That is still the plan but we're working on the minor things.. like how will you install it? How will you get updates? And what would happen if...? Sounds boring, I know.. but it's a major part in our workflow to question things before you do.

With a recent surge of news covering Facebook's "plaintext" scandal and the idea about being secure online, we've taken security really personally as well as your feedback.  Whenever we've had things to show, we have always asked you guys what you think we should do to improve and we appreciate all the feedback we get. As soon as we have something visible for you guys to see, we will let you know as soon as possible. "I promise" - Aidan 26/04/2019

Until next time,

Dev Update [Caebyn]

Hey guys, it’s the guy that always says the things about the communities and the social medias and stuffs.  What have I been up to? Just the usual updates and whatnot, sharing the things, answering the things, talking the things, as you do.  Our next big social media goal is to reach 1000 followers on Twitter so if you haven’t already, come give as a follow and even if you already have or have not, share with your friends as well.  We will love all the new people as equally as all the usual suspects that have been around forever. Well that’s it from me this dev-log,

Take care and see you next time.

That brings us to the end of this AFTERSHOCK Status Report.
Thanks for reading!
