Welcome Survivors to our Official AFTERSHOCK Status Report for the 11th of OCTOBER 2019, we will be doing these status reports once every two weeks. This gives us enough time to gather stuff to report on.

Dev Update [Sam]

Hey there everyone!
I have some new things to share with you in this week’s Development Log.

I’ve been researching this for a while now and now I am happy to show off what I've been working on behind the scenes over the past few dev-logs.

Now before I showcase the WIP Motion Matching, let me explain what it is. Well that would be very difficult to explain through text and clips, so instead here is an explanation from GDC 2016.

Motion Matching may have been around since 2016 but it hasn’t appeared in too many games yet. Two major games that use this complex animation dance card based system are The Last of Us Part 2 and For Honor. Just note that we are nowhere near that stage of even being close to the AAA quality of animation fidelity as Naughty Dog or Ubisoft as we are just an Indie Team who does not have a mo cap studio to use or a large team to work with.

In the clips below I have the system showcasing the animations, this is all done through various dance cards.

Currently it’s 100x better than our previous generic locomotion system which had no feet crossover, Foot IK, or leaning. This system dynamically plays the correct animation and blends it based on the current input/velocity.

It still needs a lot more work done, for an example of what a motion matching system looks like at its best here is an example from the talented work of Naughty Dog on The Last Of Us Part 2.

I can’t wait to showcase the growth of the Motion Matching with you all and how we implement it into different things like swimming, climbing and more!

There are many new things that have been implemented in this area. Major optimizations to the ocean have been made, major draw calls have been reduced, there is a new wake system which helps us manage the waves which means we can now create storms if we wish to do so, and there is foam which will not just appear on the coastline/shore but also on the water surface itself.

I have been doing some work on the social side of the tablet but I’m just not ready yet to show anything off. After some more work, we now have transition animations on all the UI screens. We plan on creating a new tablet model as the current one is just a placeholder model and is far too low quality for our standards.

Well NPCs could always talk but now I’ve integrated voice lines for full immersion. We will be looking into voice actors and anyone who is interested can fill out the form below to showcase their interest. Currently we don’t have the funding to pay but we will be crediting anyone who assists with a few lines here and there!

Dev Update [Dom]

Hello backers, members, and everyone in between.
This dev-log, I'm going to talk about about the newer changes to La Feria.

First on the list, I’m currently doing a one over on the prison and doing more interior work on the building.

Secondly, I have started to do building work for the town nearby. So far I have built a small park and I do plan on replacing the current building below with a small church.

On the topic of the town, I have now started to build houses and other structures like shops and a gas station.

That's all for this dev-log guys.

Signing off - Dominic

Dev Update [James]

Hey guys.

As mentioned last time, I am looking into different ways for players to be detected by crazies. I am making good progress on this but there is not much to say about it as it is background code.

New AI

I also talked about getting sound detection working. Well, this is something that gives me the ability to work on a new type of AI that detects you through sounds.

At the current moment, we don’t have a model for them at this stage as we are just getting the Crazies set up and functioning as they should be. Getting models is not a high priority for us at this stage.

These new AI have no sense of sight, resulting in a keener sense of hearing than other Crazies. This will make them more of a threat at night as they will be able to hear you better than normal crazies.

A Bit of Background Info

Most were created when the towers came up near them and as they did not have any protection, the towers had a stronger effect on them. This in turn fried their eyes so badly that they are no longer usable.

Some others however have been created due to the towers being used to trap and turn people. Those unfortunate souls that have been trapped weren’t fully prepared for the encounter or perhaps just didn’t think that they would need the correct equipment due to being promised loot and safe passage.

As always, we are looking for suggestions for types and even just names that we can use.

You can submit them here:

That’s all for this time

Dev Update [Caebyn]

This is Charlie Alpha Echo Bravo Yankee November here with some new information.

Things have been strong as usual here on this side of the box. A special shout out to all our Russian fans who have been sharing our stuff to your communities. I recently saw how many people are active over there and it makes us so happy to see how they respond to what we make. On another note, our Twitter is still slowly growing which is a main area of news and updates so that is great to see as well. As always, we hope you guys enjoy all the content we have shared and enjoy all the new content that will be coming your way in the next two weeks.

This is Charlie Alpha Echo Bravo Yankee November signing off.

That brings us to the end of this AFTERSHOCK Status Report.

Thanks for reading!
