AFTERSHOCK Status Report - 9th November 2018

Welcome Survivors to our second official AFTERSHOCK Status Report, we will be doing these status reports once every two weeks. This gives us enough time to gather stuff to report on.

Hope you Enjoy!

Dev Update [James]

Hello Everyone!
I have been working on new features for the AI, for example Sam and I have got a working system where if you shoot off a Crazies Leg it will crawl on the floor instead.

We also made the decision to make Crazies only die to head-shots, you can destroy limbs to limit their damage output and mobility but to end them you must destroy the brain.

Another feature i’m working on is getting the Crazies (if close enough) to possibly try grabbing onto the player, this will lock the player in place and they can shove it off or if they have a knife attempt to stab it, This isn’t a confirmed feature but just something i’m looking into.

Dev Update [Aidan]

Hey Boxers, Here's an update on the launcher side of things.

Hey guys, we've been making great progress towards our Launcher Backend. So far Me, Sam and Steven have been able to use a test API I built to test how we were going to implement social features into the launcher. Not going to lie, the morning of this dev log I was up till 4 AM working on making it possible to register and login through our backend. The plan for us is to release the launcher at the beginning of December, but I do plan to do a quick Alpha test with random Backers and a few others. This Alpha test will be a quick handling test before we have all our Backers login to our network. As soon as the launcher is released in December, we would officially be in Beta for the launcher. The launcher is still missing some features, but thats why the launcher is in Beta. We wish to continue to develop this launcher with you, our community. Thank you all for your continuous support.

Dev Update [Dom]

Hey Guys, Dom here!

Just this week alone we have pushed over 200GB of data to our perforce server in updates, good thing that our server load has been able to handle it pretty well, 99% of this data is Sam and James pushing updates to the project files via perforce (do note the game builds are only 1GB currently, we expect 10 - 30gb max on launch.

Dev Update [Sam]

Hello Survivors!
I have been working on quite a few things:

  • New UI revamp for spawn selection/loading into world.

  • Zombie Limbs (Blown Off)

  • La Feria (More Map Progress (Chunk x1_y2))

  • Weapon Ballistics.

  • Barrett 50 Cal.

  • New Scope System (HUD)

  • Added TrueSky 4.20

  • New FOV Slider

  • Updated Free-fall/Parachute system.

  • Train Tracks added for future train travel system.

+ More smaller features which will be explained in future Dev Logs once they are more ready to explain.

To go over weapon ballistics in short it means that instead of ray traced lines determining bullet lines we instead have actual projectiles. This means:

- Bullet Drop

- Wind Effects Bullets

- Bullet Penetration

- Bullet Ricochet

- Different Bullet Weight

- Different Falloff Damage

- Damage calculated on impact velocity and mass.

Another cool thing is the limb system, now you can shoot of limbs to force Crazies to crawl or not be able to attack you via melee.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE BARRETT 50 CAL MODEL IS A PLACEHOLDER! (CREDIT GOES TO: - This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 4.0 Unported License).

This model will be replaced in the next week or two.

I’ve attached GIF’s and Images of what i have mentioned below!
